C.O. Simpkins is a civil rights leader whose contributions to voter registration during the turbulent decades of the 1950s and 1960s
supported reform of voting rights in his community and in the nation. A dentist by profession, he used his free time to work on this
and other Civil Rights issues to make this country a better place for all citizens. During this time, he was a leader of the Southern
Christian Leadership Conference, working closely with the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Dr. Simpkins has been nominated for the Presidential Citizenship Medal, the nation’s second-highest civilian honor.
